RESOURCES ON MENTAL HEALTH IN THE AGE OF COVID-19

We asked our panelists to provide us with reading materials pertinent to their talks. In addition, listeners shared other suggestions on Zoom Chat. We have organized these materials by topic and provide links to them all here.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT COVID-19 AND MENTAL HEALTH

  • A meditation on the nature of loss: "On Transience" (1916) Standard Edition of the Complete Psychological Works of Sigmund Freud, Volume XIV (1914-1916) 303-307

    KIDS AND FAMILY DURING COVID-19

    SUPPORTING KIDS DURING COVID-19

    • Article on talking to kids about the Coronavirus

PERSPECTIVES ON COPING WITH STRESS CAUSED BY THE PANDEMIC

      HOW TO HELP

      • NextDoor Neighborhood, an app on which you can either volunteer or get help for neighbors at higher risk
      • The Call to Unite - The Call to Unite is presented by UNITE, a growing collaborative led by Tim Shriver and people from all walks of life, dedicated to addressing universal challenges we can only solve together

      DONATING

      • Search for your community's domestic violence program's wish list, and donate in just a few clicks the items they critically need to continue helping local abuse shelters
      • Blog with quite a few resources on volunteer organizations helping vulnerable populations

      FOR SOME FUN

“A COVID 19-proof activity that will get you outside and that will improve your mental health:  Mobile App called Goose Chase -- it is a scavenger hunt.  Your family forms a team, and you get in the car and find items on a list.  You compete against other families.  You upload photos or videos when you have found the item or completed the activity.  You drive around.  Yes, you need somebody who puts together the scavenger hunt items and moderates whether the videos or photos are accessible.  It can last a few hours.”
